All of us at Up Records are deeply saddened over the passing of musician Elliott Smith. Besides recently releasing a pair of songs with our friends at Suicide Squeeze records, he was involved in a few of Quasi's records on Up and the band also backed him on tour a few years ago. He and his talents will be missed by many, including us. |

Quasi played with Brent Arnold and the Spheres last Friday (it was great!) and the Stranger printed a little article about the band, found here. Meanwhile, Susan Robb from Incredible Force of Junior was in the Stranger as well for receiving one of their first-annual Genius awards. That story is here. |

Lots of people keep buying home-made imitations of our shirts and posters on ebay for prices ridiculously higher than we charge. We'd like everyone to notice what we've got for sale here and note that they can get Modest Mouse and Built To Spill posters for $1 here, not $7 or $10 like on ebay, and the shirts going for $25 on ebay are $12 here. Everything is available in our store which is over at www.updirect.com. Also watch for more videos on the site soon. |

|
Sadly, Scotty Jernigan of Karp and The Whip died in a boating accident on Tuesday, June 10th. Well known for his kick ass drumming, as well as his carefree spirit, he was also one hell of a funny guy. He will be missed by many. |

Caustic Resin keep on truckin' |
 |
|
Keep On Truckin' is Caustic Resin's sixth
full length album since their incarnation over a decade ago. The album was recorded at Audio-Lab in
Garden City, Idaho by Jon Mullin (Doug Martsch, The Suffocation Keep), with some additional recording
done at The Space in Ballard, WA, and tracking & mixing at Hall
of Justice in Seattle by Phil Ek (Built to Spill, Les Savy Fav, et al.) & Brett Netson. "Keep On Truckin'" was
produced by Caustic Resin & Jim Roth, with Jim engineering. The band consists now of Netson
(guitar and vocals), Mike Johnson (bass and guitar), and Pat Perkins (drums). Netson explains the
difference between Keep On Truckin, and previous releases: "The last two were sort of experiments.
This one is more grim, sort of outwardly vicious. Not as self-involved. Been living in LA off and on, there's
different kinds of things that are in your face on a daily basis. A lot less space. A variety of dangers.
The record kind of reflects that." Tom Romich and Jim Roth (Voodoo Gearshift, The Delusions) round out
the artists involved, with Tom performing vocals on "8th St." and bass on other tracks, and Jim playing steel guitar
on "Message to Shareholders" and "Viva La Causa!" with the former also featuring him
on moog. The album was released February, 2003 and is available online from updirect.com. |
