 Bio

Frontman Mark Pickerel has a long history in Northwest rock, having been a founding member of The Screaming Trees. He also played briefly with Nirvana on a live session in 1989, in which Pickerel, along with Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, and Mark Lanegan recorded three tracks, although only one of these songs ever surfaced, a cover of Leadbelly's "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" which can be found on Mark Lanegan's first solo album, "The Winding Sheet." After several years with the Trees, Mark left to pursue other interests, including opening his own record store, Rodeo Records in Ellensburg, WA. He also teamed up with Robert Roth and Hiro Yamamoto (formerly of Soundgarden) to form Truly. After Truly broke up, Mark started working on his own material, as well as working with other musicians, most notably Neko Case, who he toured with quite a bit. After working on demos for his own project, Mark teamed up with Jesse Roberts (Ruby Doe, Jana McCall) on guitar and Mike Elkins on bass which led up to The Dark Fantastic releasing their first record in 1999 on Up Records. This was followed by "Goodbye Crooked Scar" in 2001. Mark also appears on "Total Lee The Songs of Lee Hazlewood" (City Slang) doing a cover of "Sand" with Calvin Johnson (Beat Happening, The Halo Benders). Mark has now been playing with his new group Mark Pickerel and his Praying Hands, who have been touring and playing such acts as SXSW 2006 and All Tomorrow's Parties 2006. Their debut album has recently been released on Bloodshot Records. For more information about Mark and his new tunes visit his site at markpickerel.com.
