Brent Arnold is well known as a cellist who has worked with groups such as Modest Mouse, Sleater-Kinney, Brand New, and the Go-Betweens, as well as more experimental musicians like Eyvind Kang and Wally Shoup. His former group, the Spheres, released a record on Up Records in 2004 to great reviews, and his current group, the Invincible Hummingbirds, is currently working on their first record.
Brent's new release, Cinema Deep Crush, is a record of surreal orchestrations, mysterious soundscapes, and strange beauty. The music is densely arranged with strings and electronics, voices, and other sounds. Brent's cello is prominent but he also plays another dozen or so instruments including the er-hu (Chinese 2-stringed fiddle), toy piano, and pump organ. The record was created over several years, recorded in a variety of studios, apartments, basements, and other places in Seattle and New York.
